DIY Halloween Party Favors: Paper Treat Bags with Heat Transfer Vinyl

Craftables trick or treat paper bags

Hey crafty friends! Kayla here from the Kayla Makes Blog and today I'm going to show you how you can apply heat transfer vinyl on plain paper treat bags to customize for a Halloween party, or any occasion. I'm working with my Cricut Maker, buy any cutting machine will work for this tutorial.

Here's What You'll Need:

Step One: Design Set-Up

Cricut Design Space set up

As always, when I'm working on a project, I like to create a mock-up on the Design Space canvas, this helps give me a pretty good idea of what my finished product will look like. *You can find this Trick or Treat SVG as a free download here.

Cricut Design Space mat

Once you have everything ready to cut, click the "make it" button and on the following screen you'll need to click through each may and turn on the mirror setting.

In the next window you'll select your material. For Craftables Smooth HTV I use Cricut's 'everyday iron-on' setting

Step Two: Load and Cut

Starting with the first color mat that is displayed on the screen, load each color of heat transfer vinyl one at a time and cut. Be sure to place the HTV with the shiny side face down on the mat.

Step Three: Weed Images

Once all designs have been cut, weed away the extra material by hand.

Then, use a weeding tool to remove the smaller pieces such as the insides of the letters.

Step Four: Iron-On

Use a mini iron or a household iron to apply the heat transfer vinyl on the paper bags. Depending on which iron you use, you'll want to apply even pressure for 15-30 seconds. I start with the center of the design and work my way out, adding on color at a time. Be sure to remove the clear carrier sheet between presses.

Continue ironing on each color until all bags are complete.

Fill the mini treat bags with candy and you're finished!

These would be great for a small party with just a few friends. You can change up the designs to match whatever your party theme may be.

How cute would these be for a bridal party with the brides monogram? So cute!

Remember, when you see a tutorial like this, don't think, "oh that's for Halloween, it isn't useful to me.", this easy DIY can be applied to so many different occasions and is a great way to elevate any party.
