Here are the supplies you’ll need:
- Craftables 12x12 Permanent Adhesive Vinyl Sheets (I used Black and and Tiffany Blue)
- Be Kind Template
- Craftables Transfer Tape
- Cricut Cutting Machine
- Cutting Mat
- Weeding Tool
- Squeegee (or Credit Card)
- Painter’s Tape
- Rubbing Alcohol and Cloth
- Scissors
Step 1: Click on the project link, which will take you to Cricut’s Design Space. If you don’t want to change the color, click on “Make It”. If you want your words to be the same color, or want to use different colors, click on “Customize”. You can then click on each letter and change the color to your preference. Then, click “Make It”.
Step 2: Select “vinyl” from the materials dropdown.
Step 3: Add a sheet of black vinyl to the cutting mat with the vinyl side facing up. Click the arrow button to add it your machine, and then click the Cricut “C” to start cutting. After it’s finished cutting, push the arrow button again to unload the cutting mat. Repeat this process to cut out the letter “e”.
Step 4: Add a sheet of turquoise vinyl to the cutting mat with the vinyl side facing up. Click the arrow button to add it your machine, and then click the Cricut “C” to start cutting. After it’s finished cutting, push the arrow button again to unload the cutting mat. Repeat this process to cut out the remaining letters.
Step 5: Use a weeding tool to peel back the top corner of the letter “B” vinyl. Remove all of the negative vinyl leaving the letter in place. Weed out the center pieces on the “B”. You’ll need to weed the remaining letters. If a letter is smaller (like the letter “e” and “i”) and there is excess vinyl remaining, trim it off before you weed. You can use this extra vinyl for a future project.
Step 6: After you weed all of your vinyl, and have just the letters remaining, cut an 11”x11” piece of transfer tape. Lay it on top of the vinyl “B” and use a squeegee (or credit card to adhere the transfer tape).
Step 7: Before you get started, add some rubbing alcohol to a cloth and wipe down the door where you plan on adding your vinyl quote. Them, use painter's tape to add a line to the back of your door. This will help keep all of your letters straight.
Step 8: Peel the transfer tape off of the letter “B”. The “B” will come off of the liner. Place it towards the top of the door and use a squeegee (or credit card) to adhere the letter to the door. Slowly peel back the transfer tape. If any part of the letter comes up, simply place the transfer tape back down, go over with the squeegee, and peel it up again.
Step 9: You’ll use the same piece of transfer tape for all of the remaining letters. Use the above steps to add all of the letter to your door.
Step 10: Once all of your letters are up, remove the painter’s tape.
Step away and admire your new DIY “Be Kind” Vinyl Door Quote! I love how this project completely transforms a plain door while also giving a quote we should all live by for a better world.
