Custom Child's Art Display Using Adhesive Vinyl

Proudly show off your little’s artwork with this custom child's art display using adhesive vinyl!

If you have kids of your own, you know just how quickly their artwork can add up. Every time they sit down with markers, paint, and paper a new masterpiece is created. If you’re like me you feel bad tossing out artwork created by your little ones but aren’t a fan of plastering it all over your fridge. Well, I have a cute solution for you––a custom child’s art display using adhesive vinyl!

This is the perfect DIY project to show-off all of your child’s artwork. You can tackle this intermediate project is less than an hour. Just think how great it will be to finally organize and display all the artwork you have piling up.

Here are the supplies you will need:

• Wooden Sign
• Craftables Adhesive Vinyl (Black and other Various Colors)
• Craftables Transfer Tape
• Cricut “Kyden” Font
• Cricut “Love” Font
• Cricut Machine (or Silhouette)
• Cutting Mat
• Craftables Weeding Tool
• Craftables Transfer Tape
• Baker’s Twine
• Scissors
• Hot Glue Gun and Glue
• 3 Tacks

Step 1: Open Cricut Design Space and open a text box. Type in the name you want on your art display. Change the font to Cricut’s “Kyden” font. I resized mine to 2” high to fit inside of my wooden plank. You can resize yours to fit your wood piece.  

Step 2: Open up another text box and type out “Masterpieces”. Again, I resized mine to 2” tall, but you can resize yours according to your wood piece.   Select the entire word and click “ungroup”. Click on each individual letter and change the color. I went with red, yellow, dark blue, light blue, green, and orange. I then repeated the same color combo for the last five letters.  

Step 3: Click “Make it” and then continue. Select “Vinyl” from the materials list.

Step 4: Add the black vinyl to the cutting mat with the vinyl facing up. Push the start button to begin cutting. Repeat these steps with all of the remaining colors of vinyl.

Step 8: Trim down all of the letters in the word “Masterpieces”, cutting as close to the letters as you can. Then, align the letters to spell out “Masterpieces” and cut a piece of transfer tape the same size.

Step 9: Place the left side of the transfer tape over the “M”, go over it with a squeegee, and remove it from the liner. Then, add the liner from the transfer tape behind the “M”. We are going to add each individual letter to the transfer tape and the liner will prevent the letters from sticking to your work surface.

Step 10: After you add a letter, fold back the liner and place the next letter as close as you can to the prior one. Place the transfer tape on top, go over it with a squeegee, and remove the letter’s liner. Continue adding the remaining letters in “Masterpieces” to the transfer tape until all of them have been added.

Step 11: Remove “Masterpieces” from the liner and then place it in the center below the name. Go over it with a squeegee, and slowly remove the transfer tape.

Step 12: Cut a piece of baker’s twine 6 inches longer than your piece of wood. Tie a knot on one end, place a tack in the center of the knot (trim the ends if needed), and then add hot glue on top (this will help keep it secure). Repeat these steps to secure the other side of the twine. Make sure to pull it nice and tight before pushing the tack into the other knot.

Step 13: Cut a piece of twine 5” long, fold it in half, tie a knot at the end. Then, place it towards the top center of your wood piece, push a tack in the center of the knot, and add hot glue on top to secure it.

Time to grab some of your newest artwork and tack it up on your new DIY art display board. This would also make a pretty awesome gift for a new mom, or as a 1st birthday gift. Anyone with a child would love to have their own!
