DIY Mother’s Day Picture Frame

Hi, friends! Kayla here from Kayla Makes to share the how-to for a quick and easy Mother's Day project using adhesive vinyl and the Cricut Maker. The mama's in your life are sure to appreciate this keepsake gift but if you want to just make one for yourself, that's okay too! Keep reading for the tutorial.

Estimated Time To Complete: 20 Minutes

Here's What You'll Need:

Step One: Upload and Scale Image

Start by uploading or opening your image in Design Space. Use a ruler or tape measure on your frame to determine what size you should make your design. You can scale the image by holding the arrow (in the bottom right corner) and dragging or by setting the dimensions in the size panel at the top of the screen.

Step Two: Select Material and Load Machine

After clicking the make it button, follow the on-screen prompts to select the material and double check that the correct blade is loaded into the machine.

Place the sheet of adhesive vinyl on the cutting mat with the paper backing face down and load the mat into the machine. Press the flashing start button and wait for the machine to finish cutting.

Step Three: Weed Images

Cut around the design to free it from the remaining sheet of vinyl and then peel away the excess vinyl from around the edges.

Use a hook tool to remove the smaller pieces of vinyl.

Step Four: Apply Transfer Tape

Cut a piece of Craftables transfer tape and apply it over the design. Use a scraper tool to burnish well over the vinyl so that it sticks to the transfer tape.

Step Five: Transfer Decal

Place the transfer tape (with the vinyl decal attached) on the frame and use a scraper tool again to apply pressure over the design causing it to stick to the frame and release from the transfer tape. Peel the transfer tape away starting at the corner and moving slowly down at an angle. The decal should stick to the frame. If there are any pieces that didn't stick, place it back down and use the scraper tool again to burnish.

Now, all you need to do is attach a small clothespin with hot glue and add a photo!

Don't be afraid to customize this quick and easy project for any occasion. It would make a great wedding, new baby or even a teacher’s gift. Change up the quote and then choose from Craftables line of 25 adhesive vinyl colors to really make it your own. The gold chrome metallic vinyl would look beautiful on this weathered frame.
