Add this DIY giving plate using adhesive vinyl to your next party to-do list for a gift that keeps on giving!
Have you ever heard of a giving plate? It’s been circulating around on Pinterest for some time now. The concept behind a giving plate is you add treats to the plate when you go to a party or gathering. When the recipient finishes the treats, they see they are to “enjoy, refill, and pass”. Then, when they're ready to pay it forward, they put their name and date on it, and send it off with some treats to the new recipient. A giving plate really is the gift that keeps on giving!

For my giving plate, I used a clear plate. This way, I was able to add my design to the back so the treats could go right on the plate. You don’t want to put food directly onto vinyl since it’s not food safe and will make your yummy treats not so yummy! I was able to create my own giving plate design using different fonts. This intermediate project takes around an hour to create depending how good you are at navigating Cricut/Silhouette to create your own cut file. So, what do you say? Are you ready to hop on the bandwagon and make your own giving plate with adhesive vinyl? If so, check out the video below for a full step-by-step tutorial!
Here are the supplies you will need:
- Clear Glass or Acrylic Plate
- Craftables Adhesive Vinyl (Black and Red)
- Craftables Transfer Tape
- “hello” Font
- “Bebas Nu” Font
- Cricut Machine (or Silhouette)
- Cutting Mat
- Craftables Weeding Tool
Step 1: Open Cricut Design Space and open a circle shape. Resize it to the size of your plate. Then, open another circle shape, change the color to white and resize to an inch smaller than your plate. Open up a text box to create the text “The Giving Plate”. I used the font “Bebas Nu” for “The” and “Plate” and the font “Hello” for “Giving”. Once you have the words aligned, select all of them and click attach.
Step 2: Open up a text box and type out “Enjoy”. Copy and paste it twice and then type “Refill” and “Pass”. Resize each of the words so they are the same size.
Step 3: Open up a heart shape and resize it to fit inside of the words at the bottom. Then, copy and paste it.
Step 4: Move the hearts out of the way and hide both circle shapes. Copy all 3 words and align them on the bottom. Then, evenly space them out.
Step 5: Select each of the hearts and change the color on both to red.
Step 6: Move the hearts out of the way and select all of the words and hit attach then hit “Make It”.
Step 7: For the black vinyl, click “mirror”. The design is going to be backwards since we are putting it on the back of the plate and not the front. Then, select “vinyl” from the materials list.
Step 8: Add the black vinyl to the cutting mat with the vinyl facing up. Push the start button to begin cutting. Repeat these steps with the red vinyl.
Step 9: Trim down your vinyl and weed the negative for both the words and hearts.
Step 10: Go over the back of your plate with rubbing alcohol to remove any grease and/or dirt.
Step 11: Cut a piece of transfer tape slightly larger than the words. Peel off the top liner, place it on the design, and go over it with a squeegee. Peel up the transfer tape to remove the design.
Step 12: Place the design on the back center of your plate and go over it with a squeegee. Then, slowly remove the transfer tape. Repeat these steps to add the other words and the hearts. If your vinyl comes up with the transfer tape, place it back down and go over it again with the squeegee. Continue doing this until it no longer peels up and is adhered to the plate.
You now have a really thoughtful and fun piece to share at your next party or gathering. This DIY giving plate with adhesive vinyl would also make a great housewarming gift since it’s so unique and thoughtful. Enjoy!
