How to Make DIY Cinco De Mayo Party Favors with Adhesive Vinyl

Hey crafty friends, Kayla here again from Kayla Makes. Warm weather is upon us and with all that sunshine comes all those summer themed parties. I feel like anytime you're throwing a themed party the costs can really start to add up. Themed cups, plates, napkins, treat bags etc. can be pricey. Today, I'm going to show you how easy it is to add vinyl decals on plain plastic party supplies to create your own custom themed party decor for a fraction of the price.

Grab your Cricut Maker and follow along with this easy step-by-step tutorial.

Difficulty: Easy

Estimated Time To Complete: 30 mins or less

Supplies:

Step One: Set-Up Designs in Design Space

For the adhesive vinyl decals I used the cactus shapes from this Craftables free download and you can find the rest of the shapes by googling Cinco De Mayo SVG's. Scale the designs to fit the party items you plan to use.

Step Two: Select Material, Load and Cut

In the cut settings window, select vinyl as the material and click continue.

Load the adhesive vinyl onto the cutting mat with the shiny, colored side facing up and load the mat into the machine.

Press the flashing go button and wait for the designs to finish cutting. Repeat this step for each color of vinyl.

Step Three: Weed Designs

Remove the excess vinyl from around the designs and discard.

Use a weeding tool (or hook tool) to help you remove the smaller pieces.

Step Four: Apply Decals

Apply a piece of transfer tape over a design to lift it off the carrier sheet then place it on the party cup and apply pressure to help the decal stick.

Repeat this step until the cups are covered in colorful decals.

Step Five: Print and Cut Printable Vinyl Decals

For the fun piñata treat bags I utilized Cricut's print then cut feature and Craftables' printable adhesive vinyl. For a more detailed post on printable vinyl check out DIY Millennial Pink Laptop Stickers Tutorial: How to Use Inkjet Printable Adhesive Vinyl.

Scale the piñata design and then send it to the printer to be printed. After printing, load the sheet onto the cutting mat with the printed side facing up.

In the cut settings window, select printable vinyl as the cutting material.

The machine will read the registration marks and cut around each printed design so that you end up with a custom vinyl sticker. Simply stick them on the favor bags and you're done!

Craftables inkjet printable vinyl is also waterproof so you could totally use it to decorate cups as well.
